Car Insurance Companies & New Car Seat Guidelines

Share

Car seat guidelines have been updated for the first time since 2002 and many parents are less than thrilled with the new strict guidelines.  According to Keith McCord of the Deseret News, “Parents (are) confused, upset over new car seat guidelines.”  Car insurance companies have a vested interest in these new guidelines because if they really do keep kids safer in crashes, that could lower the medical bills being paid out after car accidents.  The guidelines are a joint effort between the American Academy of Pediatrics and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.  They are based more on height and weight now and less on age.

It is now recommended that children’s car seats remain rear-facing until at least the age of 2, an increase from the age of 1.  They pair this age 2 guideline with a weight of 35 pounds.  Many parents argue that their smaller children did not weigh that much until well over age 3 and say that their legs were way too long to be in a rear-facing car seat.  Insurers like Infinity auto insurance could then have to worry about broken legs in an accident, according to some parents.  But a manager at the Primary Children’s Medical Center says that there is no record of a child breaking their legs because they were rear-facing.  She also points out that a study in 2007 showed that children are five times safer when they are rear-facing than when they are forward-facing.

The other guideline ruffling some feathers is the recommendation that children remain in booster seats until they are at least 80 pounds, 4 foot 9 inches, and between 8 and 12 years old.  It is said that that is when they will best fit into regular seatbelts.  While many parents are up in arms about these new guidelines, they are meant with their children’s safety in mind and they are not law.  Each child grows differently and could be lighter or heavier than others their size.  It is best to go to an inspection station if you have any question about the safety of your children.

Home Insurance & Downloads

Did you know that 10 million music tracks are downloaded in the UK every single year? That figure has consistantly risen for the past few years and looks set to rise further given the fact that single tracks can be downloaded and thus save people money. So this fact is fascinating but what has it got to do with home insurance? Well, you may be a little miffed to find out that it has everything to do with home insurance because more than 30% of providers do not cover downloads in any way.

Yes, that’s right. Should your home burn down, flood or be burgled you would not be able to claim the money for your downloads back. T

Mississippi Now Trying to Implement New Bill Regarding Uninsured Drivers

When people buy a car they often do not have a car insurance policy in place before the purchase is complete. In the state of Mississippi, Governor Haley Barbour needs to review the new House bill regarding car insurance. The name of the bill is House Bill 620. It has already been passed by the state’s legislature. What the bill does is require drivers to get car insurance coverage. If they do not then the tax clerk will not give them a car tag.

A car tag is very important to people because every year a person needs to register their vehicle. I

With budgets being increasingly tight these days, more and more people are looking for ways to save some cash. One way of doing this could be to see what savings can be made on your respective insurance policies, and if you’ve got a caravan insurance policy it could be wise to consider taking on a voluntary excess.

Having a caravan insurance policy excess is a pretty standard part of all insurance policies. That is, the insurance company will only pay a claim less the amount of the excess, and the amount often depends on the individual policy and the value of the insured item. T

Cheap Car Insurance & Checking It’s Validity

It was revealed a few months ago that there were issues with cheap car insurance. Although drivers believed that they had taken out legitimate policies and had the paperwork to prove it, many were being pulled over by the police and given tickets for not having any form of insurance in place. In some instances, this led to them having their cars seized and having to pay to have them released, although some police forces recognised that there was a deeper issue – some insurers were not updating details quick enough.

Although this has supposedly improved in recent months and insurers have picked up the pace somewhat, there are still a few issues in this particular area.

The Safest Small Cars of 2011

Affordability and fuel efficiency drive the small car market, but now some of the most cost-conscious vehicles on the over-busy roads are also some of the safest. Car makers, well tuned to the ears and wallets of conservatively spending consumers, have released a wave of new compact rides for 2011 with low price tags, more comfort and superb safety standards. Safe has met small and, for car makers and drivers, that means good business.

Measuring Car Safety

The safest 2011 cars were tested and rated by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Crash worthiness was dependent on how well a vehicle could take a hit from every direction–high-speed side crashes, front and rear collisions and roll overs. I

Idahoans Are Finding Cheap Car Insurance

Share

Idaho is the place for finding cheap car insurance, according to InsWeb’s latest report detailing median car insurance rates by state.  The report looks at car insurance rates for the 50 United States as well as the District of Columbia.  Some of the largest car insurance companies and InsWeb customers were tracked to find these rate results for 6-month car insurance policies.

This is the second year in a row that Idaho had the lowest insurance rates in the survey.  On average, Idahoans pay $436 for six months of car insurance.  The nine other states in the top ten with cheap car insurance premiums are Maine, Vermont, North Dakota, North Carolina, Minnesota, Virginia, Utah, Ohio, and Wisconsin.  Each of these states had six-month premium costs below $550.

Louisiana drivers pay the highest  premiums in the country when you compare car insurance, with the average driver spending $1,111 every six months.  This is also the second year in a row for Louisiana being ranked in the bottom spot.  Rounding out the top ten states with the highest car insurance premiums are Maryland, Rhode Island, Nevada, Arizona, Washington D.C., New York, Connecticut, California, and Georgia.  It is interesting how the cheapest and most expensive states don’t seem to have much in common.  Each list contains states all across the U.S. with differen
